BRANDY SWARTZ
PORTFOLIO
I was named after a one hit wonder in the 70’s by Looking Glass. My eyes are two different colors.I am endlessly interested in the poetry and irony of ordinary moments.Finding my way within constructed image making. Re-discovering the darkroom and continuing my love for observation of people, places and things.I create images that balance intention, curiosity, and a sense of narrative.About
For more than two decades, I have worked as a professional photographer in weddings, portraits, and commercial photography. After years of building a career behind the camera, I realized I wanted to (needed to) reconnect with my identity in making images.
At 36, I entered college for the first time and began studying Fine Art Photography at the University of Iowa’s College of Art, Art History, and Design. This experience has helped me rediscover my creative identity, expand my fine art practice, and see photography in a new way.
My work is rooted in people, places, awkward moments, memory, and the quiet poetry of ordinary life. I am interested in the way images can hold both humor and tenderness, distance and intimacy, observation and imagination.
